The
Beauty Salon and Coffee Bar @ Die Handelshuis
Driving through the quaint village of Calitzdorp, located on the Route
62, Pieter Erasmus and Tracy Farrell, like so many before them,
immediately fell in love with the town and a few months later found
themselves all settled in the historic ‘Die Handelshuis’ building, the
former general dealer, built in 1900.
Not the type to be idle, now a qualified
beauty and skincare therapist, Tracy soon transformed part of the ‘Die
Handelshuis’ into the first and only Beauty Salon in Calitzdorp,
creating the perfect space, reminiscent of a bygone era, for some
quality ‘me-time’ and hands-on pampering. The salon offers a full range
of professional salon treatments such as facials, manicures, pedicures,
massage and waxing.
Since opening its doors in 2007 ‘The Salon
at Die Handelshuis’ has been an asset to the town. Locals don’t have to
drive to Oudtshoorn anymore for a manicure, while tourists have
ready-made indulgence and relaxation added to their Calitzdorp
experience – a little bit of modern luxury in a nostalgic old-world
setting.
As a beauty therapist Tracy has always held the philosophy that beauty
is not just skin deep or about a pretty face, but seen in every way you
protect, reflect and project your body power and mental energy. At ‘The
Salon at Die Handelshuis’ she aims to live out this philosophy.

Future plans for ‘Die Handelshuis’ is to add to the old-world charm of
Calitzdorp by opening a Coffee Bar with a difference on the premises.
Pieter and Tracy are still working on the details, but hope to be ready
for business by the end of 2008.
In renovating the old ‘Handelshuis’,
Pieter and Tracy are taking great care to restore the historic building
faithfully and keeping in line with the original structure, but without
compromising on practicality and comfort for Salon and Coffee Bar
patrons. The space can be described as a blend between the old and the
new, enhanced by the beautiful works of art by local artist, Marinda
Combrinck.
For a uniquely different experience in the heart of the Little Karoo, a
visit to ‘Die Handelshuis’ in Calitzdorp is a must and why not combine
it with a relaxing facial and a cappuccino while you’re at it.
