Welcome to Matjiesvlei Cottages. These fully equipped self-catering holiday homes are situated in Matjiesvlei (Matjies Valley) at the foothills of the Swartberg Mountain Range only 16km from Calitzdorp. The spectacular mountain views along with the mixed farming activities of the valley provide a tranquil atmosphere. The valley is a dead end and therefore quiet and peaceful. The hustle and bustle of city life melts away – the perfect place to relax and unwind. In all the cottages all linen and towels are provided. The kitchens are fully equipped.

Middelplaas

Matjiesvlei Cottages - Middelplaas Calitzdorp

The kitchen is equipped with the necessary utensils to make your stay a relaxing one. Cutlery, crockery, kettle, toaster, fridge/freezer and a stove with an oven, are provided. In Middelplaas the bathroom is equipped with a shower, basin and toilet. The main bedroom has a double bed. The second bedroom has 2 single beds. All linen is included, as well as towels. In Middelplaas the lounge has a big fireplace that can be used for cooking (braai, barbeque) and heating in winter. There is an outside braai as well.

Bokwagtershuis

Matjiesvlei Cottages - Bokwagtershuis Calitzdorp

The kitchen is equipped with the necessary utensils to make your stay a relaxing one. Cutlery, crockery, kettle, toaster, fridge/freezer and a stove with an oven are provided. In the Bokwagtershuis the bathroom is equipped with a shower, bath and basin. The toilet is separate. The main bedroom has a double bed. The second bedroom has 2 single beds. All linen is included, as well as towels. In the Bokwagtershuis there is a heating stove in the lounge and a built in braai on the stoep.

Die Stalle

Matjiesvlei Cottages - Die Stalle, Calitzdorp

Die Stalle (The Stables) was originally built as the residences for two of the owners of undivided shares in the agricultural land bordering the Kleinrivier (Little River). Later owners turned the houses into stables. It has now been restored into a comfortable 3 bedroomed cottage with a beautiful view of the valley and mountains. It is next to the farm dam.

To get there, you travel on the R62.

Coming from Ladismith, the turnoff to Matjiesvlei is 40 km from Ladismith.

Coming from Oudtshoorn through Calitzdorp, the turnoff to Matjiesvlei is 5,6 km from Calitzdorp.

Once on the gravel road, you carry on for 7 km untill you get to a T-junction.

To go to Middelplaas, turn left at the T-junction.Continue along the road, Middelplaas is about 3 km further on your left under a big pepper tree, just after you got the olive groves. GPS S33 26.564 ; E 21 37.887

To go to Bokwagtershuis, turn right at the T-junction. Continue for about 400m. You will see the signs of Die Bokwagtershuis on the fence on your left. S 33 26.882; E 21 39.070 Use the gate to the right of the sign for Die Bokwagtershuis, S 33 26.861 ; E 21 39.070
